Mar. 4th, 2011 12:36 pmAm I the only one a little bothered by Dumbledore? Not only with the fact he could end up in the Guinness Book Of World Records for "Most Incompetent Headmaster of All Time" (though I'm sure there's worse. :P), but also because...he just bugs me. I know JKR was trying to write him as the "flawed Yoda", so to speak (and to be fair, he's nowhere near Yoda. XD), but it's also how...preachy he gets. Towards Fudge, for example. You know, in Goblet of Fire, with, "You place too much importance on purity of blood, yadda yadda et cetera et cetera" -- which considering how he treated Tom Riddle and the Slytherins is...slightly hypocritical isn't it? Probably bad writing on JKR's part, though. :/
Anyways, sorry 'bout the rambling. Thoughts?

He messed around in ruins in Korriban and went to Onderon to learn more about Freedon Nadd's tomb, and Freedon Nadd's spirit repeatedly tortured him into falling to the Dark Side.
Exar Kun thought he was going to make a new Golden Age of the Sith. The spirit of Marka Ragnos appointed him and another, Ulic Qel Droma, into being the bringers of the new age. Exar Kun then tricked a lot of Jedi using Sith Holocrons with Sith spirits that posessed the Jedi, making them fall to the Dark Side.
But what got me was that Kun's own master, Vodo Bas Siosk, said that Exar Kun had a dark place in his heart where no light could shine.
Master Vodo, or Bodo as he is sometimes called, is one of the great ancient Grandmaster Jedis who actually formulated the Jedi Code.
But if he knew there was something wrong with Exar Kun, that he had a hidden hurt deep inside that no one ever knew of, why did he continue teaching Kun and let him wander around and dig around on Korriban?
It's just like Dumbledore in that respect. And remember Mical's discussion of why no one ever saw the danger sign in Exar Kun as well as Revan?
Exar Kun is the one who had all those buildings on Yavin 4 built, where the Rebels had their base in ANH. He had taken some wild Massassi there who had been left over from a previous Sith Lord who had taken refuge on Yavin 4, Naga Sadow. Kun mutated these Massassi into monsters.
The Jedi retaliated by destroying the surface of that world, killing everything on it in a huge fire, so it took many years for the jungle to grow back in.
That's another contention, Jedi just killing an entire race that had been enslaved in the first place. (Of course I am sure retcon is going to smooth that over like an embarassment, but I think it is fitting.)
Plus Kreia is the right age to be involved with Exar Kun forty years before, IMO, Kreia is too old to be Arren Kae, really. And I can see Kreia being really bitter over how Exar Kun had been handled.

Date: 2011-03-06 07:03 pm (UTC)And Jesus Christ, Master Vodo/Bodo/Frodo/whatever is really a *dumbass*. (Does dumbassery just run in the Order? :/)
"Plus Kreia is the right age to be involved with Exar Kun forty years before, IMO, Kreia is too old to be Arren Kae, really. And I can see Kreia being really bitter over how Exar Kun had been handled."
True. Although it does depend on how old Master Kae was when she "died" on Malachor V... *Contemplative*
And *Jesus* -- the Jedi actually *did* that?
(See, this is stuff we should send to some of the more moronic people of TV Tropes: this is one reason people may dislike the Jedi; they pull stupid stuff like this! I mean, to quote Confused Matthew *again*, guardians of truth and justice my ass! >:()
/Bitch mode off. XD
Either way, I can picture Kreia being bitter about how Exar Kun was handled. And like I said...another great mirror to Atris, methinks. :)

Date: 2011-03-06 07:11 pm (UTC)Yeah, I kind of see Arren Kae as a bit on the younger side, since she was involved with Yusanis and had a baby, although there are as many convincing clues that she was Arren Kae. I'm just going by head!canon, which is all YMMV. Both ways are equally compelling reasons for Kreia being bitter. But I like the scenario in my fics that a young Revan quietly observing that something had hurt his Master and he has no idea what, and she has no idea that he can sense it.
I don't want the part about burning a world retconned over, because it does testify to the fundemental flaws of the Jedi, and that they can act with great cruelty, too. It's a common theme in my fics. I have my OC in my fics telling the redeemed Revan that the Jedi can be cruel when they see fit too, after she questions him about the Jedi brainwashing and reprogramming him, which to me is a deep violation of an individual being, no matter how evil he may be.
Thanks! interesting foil for Atris.

Me as well. :)

*Is interested*
I'll definitely take a looksie when I have the time.
And you're welcome. :3 (Seriously, I should really make an Atris +/Kreia icon with: "Rhyming scenes: Not just restricted to the PT anymore." *Beat* Okay, I know how horrible that suddenly sounds. XD)
