The point about Merlin is that Arthurian legend deals with the period that came early after the withdrawal of organized Roman forces from the British Isles and the transition from pagan religion to Christianity - ie early 5th century CE. If in the Potterverse Merlin attended Hogwarts then he isn't the same figure that features in Arthurian legend.
