Yes. Meeting other witches and wizards at the World Cup surprised Harry. They have a very insular approach to their dealings with the world. Rather like America's isolationist policies in the late 19th and early 20th centuries - on that strain of thought, war brought the US out of isolation, maybe the WW will do the same? Because, seriously, their reasons for staying isolated are rather selfish.

I went to a great paper at Phoenix Rising about Harry Potter and the Goblet of Colonialism that looked right at this. The book's like a blueprint for it.

And ditto on MM and Hagrid. It's not even like opposites attract. It's like Cho/Filch.
