POA - Chapter 22

* The last chapter, from the last book in the series that was at least half-way decent. Remember when we all thought that there was nowhere to go but up?

* Hermione tells Harry they have to hurry back or they will be seen. As if that was really necessary. Harry could practically murder someone and not be expelled from Hogwarts.

* They run into Snape gloating over a Dementor giving Sirius a final kiss. You know, because it is bad and wrong to still want justice against someone who almost murdered you.

* Bad, Bad Snape. Unfortunately, considering what we know about Snape and Sirius. Snape was probably just sore that Lily sent a letter to Sirius and not him.

* They run into Peeves too. Peeves, the most upstanding character in the whole series. He knows the true power of love I tell you.

* Hahahahahahaha. Harry is actually worried that Dumbledore will lock him out of the infirmary.

* Dumbledore is happy that Harry did his dirty work for him. Why fight evil yourself when you have a dupe willing to be your man?

* Snape explodes because Sirius is gone! Damn, and he probably took Lily's letter with him. That heartfelt letter from the sweet, sweet Lilysue. Sirius probably wore that letter while he was in Azkaban. It protected him because Lily's love was just that strong.

But not for Snape. No way.

* Snape blames Harry. LOL. Remember when Snape was actually threatening? Then we found out that he had absolutely no personal power at all. Just the power to moon after LilySue.

* Don't worry Snapey my love. Dumbledore has much worse planned for Sirius than all those years in Azkaban. First he is going to allow Black to be totally marginalized in his own home. Then he is going to stand by while Black becomes an alcoholic type. When he is totally destroyed he will allow him to do something stupid like attack a stronger magician. Just so he can be killed and Harry will be completely without any father figure except Dumbledore. Because hey, you know, Black might try to stop Dumbledore from making Harry a sacrificial lamb. And we can't have THAT happen. Really.

* Poor Ron, he awakes from his stupor and attempts to be of some use. Silly Chap.

* Oh dear, a Hagrid scene. Hagrid's happy that Buckbeak has escaped. He also states that Lupin is leaving. We really needed Hagrid for that info?

* Lupin is leaving because Snape told everyone about his lycanthropy problem. But we know Snape had the go ahead from Dumbledore about that one. Dumbledore can't allow Lupin the illusion of being family to Harry. No way.

* Lupin knows his place, he doesn't fight Dumbledore for Harry's custody.

* Remember cool and vaguely dangerous Lupin? Didn't you love him? I did. I miss him. But unfortunately we discovered that he folds for everyone including annoying, sobbing, shrieking, useless plot point, pink haired Sues.

* Lupin gives Harry the Marauder's Map. Because potentially dangerous magical objects should be kept in the family.

* Harry meets up with Dumbledore and tells him about Trewlawney's prediction. As if Dumbledore cares, he wants Moldieman to escape so he can sacrifice Harry to the cause.

* Dumbledore keeps feeding Harry that love joke thing again. Thats it Dumbiedoof, fatten the calf.

* Everyone's talking about Lupin leaving and oh yes, Percy is being an idiot. Because being the sane one in your family is a total crime.

* The Hogwarts Express and Ron is being useless again.

* Harry gets a letter from Sirius. Sirius gives him money. He will also give him a big house too, eventually, in which the ever wonderful GinnyJoSue will pop out an enormous brood someday. I feel sorry for Kreacher already.

* You know Molly visits...frequently. There was a reason why she was cleaning out that house.

* Sirius gives an owl to Ron. Because everyone wants to give the Weasleys something. Because they are soooooo poor. I don't know. With all the handouts they get, you would think they would live a better life. Its part of the disguise, I tell you. GinnyJoSue has to Marry BIG!

* Uncle Vernon is at King's Cross to drive Harry home. Harry tells him that an almost stranger is his godfather. Which is much better than actual family. So poo to you Vernon. You don't appreciate the wonder of Harry and therefore you are no longer family.

* The power of love prevails once again.

No, but JKR can still expect us all to believe that Harry's grieved when Lupin dies and wants to have him come along on the trip to the forest. Even though Harry never once actually wants to talk to Lupin again after this book. *rolls eyes*

Oh, Lupin wants Harry to be godfather to his son out of overwhelming gratitude toward Harry for hurling insults at him when he offered to help. Because Harry Is Always Right.

Only he didn't. In DH, he actually tells Harry how painless it is to die - I'm sure a lot of parents will be grateful to JKR who told their suicidal teenagers how nice and fine it is to commit suicide...

Of course death was painless for Sirius. Drapery isn't exactly known for inflicting serious injuries, after all.

Harry could practically murder someone and not be expelled from Hogwarts.

And he almost did in HBP. But I guess it was just a lucky thing he had something like Sectumsempra up his sleeve. *massive eyeroll*

I hated how that was treated. The whole deal with Harry "not knowing" what the spell would do. As if he didn't have a good idea what kind of nasty spells the book specialized in.

I know, right? Harry's not quite as dumb as a rock; he could have come to that conclusion on his own. (Plus, you'd think they'd at least teach remedial Latin at Hogwarts, considering that it makes up the bulk of the spells they use.)

It was argued that Harry's good intentions saved him from fault and Draco deserved it.

Good intentions? Self-preservation, more like. But of course since it's Harry it automatically transforms into the healing power of love. Not sure how, but...it's there, dammit! Why? Because JKR said so! :P

If St.GinnyJoSue the beneficent and compassionate condones it, well then it must be good! Don't you hate it when the author makes a zombie of a character to tell the reader what he/she should be thinking?

Word. I like to do this little thing called "thinking for myself." I'd much rather come to my own conclusions about a story than to have conclusions shoved down my throat.

Here thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bronze_ribbons...and thank you, thank you, thank you! I've always wondered just *why* the Weasleys are so poor, especially with two sons out there working and earning money. Is Molly crippled that she can't work from home? Is Arthur such a rotten wizard that he can't get promoted? Didn't Molly have brothers who died, presumably without children, and thus leave her what *they* had? Or is it simply that they kept having kids they couldn't afford so Harry would have a help meet for him until Molly finally gave birth to the first female Weasley in five generations?

Also - your comment about Lupin in PoA being so different from the Lupin we later see caving in and marrying the shrieking idiot that ate Tonks's brain - may I friend you? This is wonderful, and so very, very true.

Thanks!

And you know, I never thought of that - they get a big cash prize, and instead of buying good clothes for the kids and maybe investing some of the money, they blow it all on the trip to Egypt. This is the Ideal Family that assimilates all the other families (except the Malfoys) marry into?

Good God. No wonder Molly didn't bat an eyelash at the prospect of her sixteen year old getting engaged to Harry. He must have looked like quite the meal ticket.

I think it's not so much that Arthur is a rotten wizard, as it is that he's a lazy wizard. He liked his job in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office and wasn't particularly interested in getting promoted. And if he hadn't had seven kids, that would have been fine.

I think it's perfectly all right for Molly and Arthur to want a girl badly enough that they were willing to have six sons to get there. I also think it's perfectly all right for Arthur to be content with a dead-end job that he enjoys rather than a higher-paid one that would only bring more stress. It's the combination of the two that's irresponsible.

That said, I actually don't have a problem with the Weasleys going to Egypt. I mean, the whole point of getting their kids new school things instead would have been to help the kids learn, and I think they'd learn a lot more by traveling in another country than they would by having robes that fit.
