I’m baaaaaaaaaaack!

So, in light of the new information about the Cursed Child debacle, I’ve decided to pick up where my abridged series has left off. I’m going to be giving the story of the Cursed Child the same treatment as I gave the books when I was doing Harry Potter Abridged…only instead of waiting until I’ve read the script, I’m going to use only the outline of the plot, and details from other people’s postings about it. So there’s going to be a lot of guess work and improvisation, but hopefully it’ll still be funny. I decided that it would be easier to get it onto paper while it was still fresh in my mind, and I thought adding my own spin on the proceedings might be more fun. Since I don't know the acts, I've broken it up based on whatever stopping points I thought were most convenient. I’ll probably track down a copy of the script at some point, and do something with it; but for now, enjoy!

In practice this has turned out to be less funny than I thought it would be. But hopefully it’s still at least a little funny.

I know that there are some excellent snarky Cursed Child sporking, reviews and reactions already. And I fully plan to read them and comment on them. But I wanted to wait until I read the blasted Cursed Child thing.

However I won't be finishing this book. As much as I hate leaving books half read; this is just too much for me. And for my blood pressure.
Still, I would like to ~~rant~~ discuss the part that made me see red and give up on this mess.

When I first read about this, I thought it was someone trolling, but there's multiple sources? Either there's a conspiracy afoot or it's legit, IDK what to believe!

What kind of crappy fanfic, lmao! A Time-Turner plot, seriously? To save CEDRIC DIGGORY, of all people, wtf?

How shitty that anti-Slytherin prejudice is still going strong to the point that Albus is ostracized for being sorted into Slytherin. :/

Cackling at Ron & Hermione never getting together as a result of the temporal shenanigans, hehe. But I'm pissed that her being single results in her becoming a bitter Hogwarts teacher as opposed to happily married Hermione being the Minister of Magic, the implications there are pretty gross.

I can't even process everything I just read. Wow. JKR should be fired from her own world, just what even.

A Harry Potter play...?

So it looks like there's going to be a sequel to Harry Potter, and it's a play. It's going to be mostly about Harry's son.

It seems like the biggest concern among most of the people on ONTD is the relative exclusivity of the medium, since a play is much more difficult to make time and money for than a book, and even if it travels, it probably won't reach every country where Harry Potter fans live.

There's also a concern that the story seems a bit cliche, and one very real danger is that it will come across as too similar to the main series. It's my experience that a story that attempts to introduce a "second generation" very often just ends up reusing the same tropes and devices that had been a mainstay of the series from the beginning. Another problem I can see arising is that the play might be caught in a conflict of how much time to spend on the older characters that we've been following for seven books and how much to include about the new generation. Since Harry Potter started as a children's series, any modern children will probably have an easier time relating to little Albus Severus and might be bored by spending time in the presence of adults like Harry; on the other hand, adults who go to see the play might be hoping to see characters they grew up knowing and loving, like Hermione or Neville, and so might be bored by the new characters they haven't had a chance to build up a relationship with.

In any case, it's hard for me to see how this play will necessarily improve upon the mythos (because it's not like we were particularly clamoring for MORE of Rowling telling you how to interpret her characters), though I suppose anything's possible. I really REALLY hope that the "curse" doesn't have to do with Snape's ebilness--leave the poor man alone why don't you!

POTTERMORE: The Potter Family

I've been a lurker of this place for so long! I've decided to post my first entry... I hope it's enjoyable.

The old Pottermore was scrapped and another one is going to take its place. Here I thought it couldn't get any less interesting, but it did. Supposedly, there's going to be something similar to the old thing that will be added. I found the FAQ page to be absolutely hillarious, so I thought it would be funny to share a few snippets.

This is where you’ll be able to read brand new writing by J. K. Rowling (yes, it’s canon!), check out magical characters, objects, spells and places, reminisce about the first time you read the books, ruminate on advice from the great Dumbledore, speculate about Newt Scamander, try to guess the identity of the Cursed Child, fall in love with the stories all over again and SO MUCH MORE.

So yes, these thing is canon and it's very important that we all know this. JKR really likes to tell people what to think, there's no such thing as readership interpretation, and she's a real hack, because she didn't include any of this in the series and instead chose to spend her time writing about nonsense.

The good thing about it is that there's more "canon" stuff to spork. It's amazing how I used to love this series until a certain point, but then it became so bad I get entertainment out of mocking it, for years too. Pottermore was really slow in the updates by the end tho, so expect it to go exactly like the books. Really fun when it starts, bland and lazy after awhile.

The Cursed Child... Uhm... Must be every Slytherin that has ever existed... Remember though, choices make you who you are. Except if you're Tom Riddle. That one was rotten since conception. Oh no, I know, the Cursed Child is Tom Riddle. Such a pair, the Cursed Child and the Boy Who Lived.

Also a moment of silent for the great Dumbledore. I almost cried but I'm over 20 so I managed to hold myself. Imagine if I cried, I'd be classified as a Cho Chang, not a Ginny Weasley.
