Imaginary encyclopedia from Russian HP fandom

Ekaterina Sedia translated some Russian fans' article titles for a fantasy (as in, it unfortunately doesn't exist... yet...) encyclopedia of feminism in Harry Potter. Some sample titles:

- House Elves: Just Like Women, Only Ugly and Invisible
- Professor Vector, or Anonymity of Women in Mathematics
- Luna Lovegood, Tom Riddle, Harry Potter: Good Children Don't Get PTSD
- Conventional Man is Allowed Anger but not Grief. Harry Potter: The Masculinity Trap
- Remus Lupin and the "Good Cripple" Archetype

I thought this community might appreciate this list. Now, if only it were a real encyclopedia...

I had to laugh at "Consequences of Limiting Abortion Rights: The Tragedy of Lily Potter."

And nothing on Lavender? "Lavender Brown: The Shaming of the Assertive Woman."

That last article... I think you have a true talent for academic language! Still, it seems that the extravagantly- or exotically-dressed witches (even for the Wizarding world) are laughed at or despised much more than their male counterparts because of their clothing -- at least for the main POV character. His perspective on who is attractive is always interesting, though. Lots of ink on Tom Riddle, for example. "Sublimating Desire and Attacking the Presentation of the Female: The Male Gaze in Harry Potter."

I thought of another title that might apply to many HP women: "True to Her Man: Attachment to the Alpha Male as the Determinant of Social Success."

True to Her Man: Attachment to the Alpha Male as the Determinant of Social Success.

That is just spot on.

Love your attention to, er, detail.

This is wonderful. And seconding the love of Consequences of Limiting Abortion Rights: The Tragedy of Lily Potter.

Thanks for linking!

I wish this was real! I adore meta and there are some thought-provoking and truly fascinating titles in that lot! (but- if they exist, they're in Russian, is that right? *sads*)

I really wish that these essays existed.

Well, you know the saying: if they don't exist, they will have to be invented.
