Magical Magic Creature Spotlight: Mooncalf

Mooncalf

MOM Classification: XX

The Mooncalf is a creature that's probably had dozens of incarnations across folklore and media. However, in Rowling-land, it's got gray fur and comes out by the light of the full moon to dance. Mooncalves have huge, flat feet, which apparently form crop circles. Plants in fields sprinkled with Mooncalf dung grow very healthy and strong.

Gerald Durrell had an alternative view of Mooncalves which made them snail-like creatures whose jelly could be fashioned for various purposes.

Note that these pictures are just of Mooncalves dancing, since I expect that normally they would be quadrupeds.

I wonder whether mooncalves are especially preyed upon by werewolves, at least in areas with relatively high numbers of both? Werewolves don't particularly seem to care for regular animals (such as dogs or stags), especially if there are humans around to bite instead, but I'm curious whether magical animals are equally unappealing or whether there might be something magically delicious about them.
