You know, DD was so over-the-top in this chapter that I almost believe that JKR is going somewhere with it. Like, whatever withered the old guy's hand also infected him with Teh Voldemorty Evil, which continues to get worse throughout the book, which is why Snape (who knows all about the Voldemorty Evil) can kill him at the end and be neither In On Some Crappy Phoenix-Based Plot nor ESE. The weirdness we see DD engaging in throughout the book is actually Jekyll!Dumbledore battling with Hyde!Dumbledore!
Rowling's probably going to let me down again and reveal that this was her idea of funny, though.
