I'm rather fond of my own theory (totally unsupported) that there was a Ministry-authorized time adjustment which wiped out the missing day for Harry and Hagrid, and got Harry out of the WW until it was ready to deal with him. Everyone else lived through that day (A few people did it twice) but Harry and Hagrid didn't.
