- "Where's the cannon?" he said stupidly. Nice to see Harry comment on his cousin's perfectly understandable confusion, when Dudley was awakened by someone knocking on the door so strongly, that the whole shack was shaking.

- In the English text, Hagrid's eyes are described as "glinting like black beetles", while the translation specifies the beetles to be cockroaches. This makes Hagrid seem not only scary, but a tiny bit repulsive.

- Hagrid is immediately likeable, because asks Dursleys to serve him a cup of tea and insults Dudley for being fat. You know, I did not mind Hagrid that much, when I was reading the books casually, but now that I'm doing a closer reading, I have already started to dislike him.

- The first words Hagrid says to Harry begin the theme of Harry having his mother's eyes. Since it is mentioned in every single book, the payoff for this is remarkably small.

- And before I forget, bullying is fun, when it's against a target that deserves it, as Hagrid demonstrates.

- Since Vernon asked Hagrid to leave and did not open fire, he has definitively proven himself to be an unworthy guardian to Harry. No courage, that one.

- Nice to see that Hagrid is so dismissive of "math and stuff".

- Hagrid says that Harry is going to be a good wizard, since he had good parents. Who said that blood doesn't matter?

- It's awfully vain for Dumbledore to list all his various titles and honors, even those that have nothing to do with Hogwarts, on the letter. Still, maybe it's there to impress Muggle parents.

- Keeping owls in your pockets, no matter how big those pockets are, is animal abuse.

- The adjective Hagrid uses with Muggle (great, biggest) make it seem like the more Muggle you are, the worse you are.

- The story of how Harry's parents died is a lot better when we read it here, than when we learn all of it.

- I have a feeling that Hagrid threatening Vernon with his umbrella is how wizards negotiate with parents unwilling to send their children to Hogwarts.

- Harry wonders why he did not turn Dursleys into toads, when they were abusing him. Is this his amazing capacity for love?

- Not only Hagrid displays his loyalty to Dumbledore by yelling at Vernon for daring to insult the headmaster, but he also curses Dudley as a punishment for it. It's probably because Dudley is fatter than Vernon, so the curse is that much hilarious.

- And we finish on the note of Dumbledore letting Hagrid stay at Hogwarts after being expelled. If only Hagrid knew tha Dumbledore could have probably cleared his name.
