1) Inability to stomach, any longer, the fact that this son of a bitch has ignored his strengths, forced him to put up with endless amounts of piddling crap, and generally misused him in almost every sense of the word but the sexual, instead of using his very considerable skills effectively;
2) Disgust with the way Dumbledore continues to handle the Slytherins in such a way as to become a far better recruiting agent for Moldiemart than anyone who actually does work for him;
3) The understanding that given the way DD has handled first young Tom, then young Severus and his generation of Slytherins, then the current crop, Dumbledore is actually responsible for the rise of Moldiemart, because he did nothing to help the boy who became him and has created an environment in which going along with him actually looks like a reasonable alternative to desperate kids.
As much as I agree with every single one of these points, I'm still fairly certain that whatever explanation we get in Book 7 will be different, since it wouldn't require aknowledging anything less than Dumbledore being PERFECT. *eyeroll*
I actually think Tom would have gone down pretty much the same path regardless of any effort Dumbledore might have made, but that doesn't negate the fact he didn't even *try*. As for attitude towards the Slytherin kids and Snape in particular, just...yes. A million times.
