That's what I think, too. But the reason it took me by surprise is that I never imagined Snape and Lucius' friendship was that of equals. Snape is a poor half-blood, and Lucius is a rich pure-blood. Moreover, Lucius is several years older than Snape, so it's a bit of a stretch to imagine they became friends at Hogwarts. I think Lucius may have taken notice of Snape, certainly, perhaps become a sort of mentor to him, and maybe even sponsored him to DE circles.
During later years they may have become friends, but I always thought it was a friendship between unequals, more along the lines of patronage (the kind of which pharnabazus talks about in his essay). In short, not such a friendship in which you take your wife to your friend's home, especially as she'd probably think said home and its environs are beneath her notice.
And yet, Narcissa knows where she's going, she doesn't show any derision towards the place like Bellatrix does, and she talks to Snape like an equal.
