Looking back, isn't this chapter amazing? Hagrid literally shows up and acts like the Dursleys only in reverse because he's bullying them. He's just all fat jokes and Muggle jokes, and it's this that makes him bond with Harry. And yet it seems to have nothing to do with their being who they are, just what they are--and daring to not bow down when Hagrid enters.
