Magical Magic Creature Spotlight: Occamy
Jan. 14th, 2013 04:33 pmOccamy
MOM Classification: XXXX
The Occamy hails from Asia—specifically, India and the Far East. Its snakelike body can get to be fifteen feet long, and it eats various birds and mammals up to the size of monkeys. It is aggressive and lays eggs with silver shells (for some reason).
I was a bit intrigued by this animal when I first saw it because it seemed suspiciously similar to an Orient-ified Wyvern, a creature found on a lot of British coats of arms. If the wiki informs me correctly, this particular creature was invented by JK Rowling, with its name a nod to the expression Occam's Razor—which was meant to be in an inside joke about how this creature makes no earthly sense and was basically thrown in here by Rowling just because she thought it would be cool. Of course. I feel like this is a metaphor of some kind for the overarching mentality of this series.
