Well, I'd have been all for killing off half the Weasleys, but given that JKR chickened out of killing Arthur two books ago, I'm surprised that she even could bring herself to kill Fred, frankly. And that was probably only because she never distinguished him much from George, so it was like killing a spare. (Draw any parallels you like there...) So if she wanted some young couple other than Remus and Tonks to have a baby and die, and didn't want to kill both Bill and another Weasley because it would make her too sad to write, the logical solution would be to push one of the Weasley twins into a quickie marriage and then kill him.
I think killing Bill and Fred would have worked better, mind. But hey, options for wimpy writers!
