Something just occured to me. There are were four Slytherins and four Ravenclaws in the advanced potions class vs. one Hufflepuff and one (legitmately Outstanding) Gryffindor.
Maybe the Slytherins and Ravenclaws got together to form their own secret potions-making group: The S.A. (Snape's Apothecaries). Unfortunately, Draco was their leader and he had to bow out in sixth year, due to his pressing need to work on his carpentry skills.
