Dudley successfully kept Harry from having a single friend his entire life

I sort of feel sorry for Dudley. He put in so much work, and now in the blink of an eye, it's all thrown away for a blonder upstart with a fancy-schmancy upper-class background and a funny name!

McGonagall swoops down, interfering with what might have been a bullying scene by Draco.

It's a sign of her fair strictness that here she intervenes in a flash (wonderfully, isn't it Harry and Ron who have been hoping for an excuse to fight Malfoy? Save those loveable moppets, Minerva, and hurry! Waiting could result in them bruising their knuckles.) whereas in OotP when Harry has a wand and is deciding which curse to use, she's swift to...um, give him points.

seemingly as an old friend of Pansy

Let's hope the house system has crushed this friendship and pissed on the ashes taught Parvati the error of her ways in befriending the ugly and evil. (Or maybe not, since she goes on to become BFFs with clingy almost-ran Lavender.)

has Ginny been taking credit for a curse of Quirrel’s?

I want Tom Riddle to have taught it to her, now.

When the hole is completed instead of the circle he’s cut out falling with the roadrunner, everything but that falls down on the coyote. That’s what it’s like dealing with Potter.

Ohhh, there's a part in the next chapter... Where Draco says 'Blah blah, you're not allowed' and turns to Flitwick and Flitwick's all 'That's cool, I know about the special circumstances' (that...we're bending the rules. Man, I can see why people have to fanonise this into 'McGonagall's just giving an athletic sponsorship to the financially challenged and talented Harry' because there really is no attempt by JKR to justify it as anything other than massive favouritism. And something you'd think Flitwick might be pissy about, not being a Gryffindor, except everyone is. At heart.)
I don't remember how I reacted to it when I first read it, but it turns me into an eleven year old myself now, sputtering impotently 'But that's not fair!'

his talent will subtly grow and shrink as the plot demands

Oh, you lie, it does not shrink! It's just his bravery in getting into fights and his Tragic Past being more powerful than anyone else's and prompting fainting are sometimes stronger than his awesome Seeking capabilities.

Harry and Ron are delighted when Hooch tells Malfoy he’s been doing it wrong for years. Which is nothing at all like Malfoy’s own delight in Harry doing anything wrong ever.

Also, this isn't them provoking a situation like it is when Malfoy smirks or laughs at them. Sure he hasn't done anything to piss them off specifically here, but he totally would have fought them back on the train!
(This just reminds me of the post-HBP arguments: 'I can't believe that nose thing, it's totally out of the blue! What on earth has Harry ever done to deserve this sudden enmity?' Like everytime Harry's pissy, it's for some important reason like he didn't know what Quidditch was in Madam Malkins six years ago, whereas Malfoy should have forgetten say, the train hexings ten minutes after they occured.)

Plus it's not the same, since Harry never really does anything wrong.
He'd be great at Potions etc. if it wasn't for being nobly oppressed, unlike Malfoy who genuinely sucks at Quidditch (and is apparently even more of a pussy in the air than on ground - surely such a thing is impossible?!), but is also a massive threat who's mere presence on the team turns all the Gryffindors into total underdogs even six years from now.

Naw, the point is how purebloods don't have any benefits to being acquainted with magic (but at the same time ruling the entire WW and standing on the necks of the quaking underdogs that are 3/4 of society) - Neville hasn't even had a lesson - and it serves Malfoy right anyway for having had lessons or practised beforehand.
If he'd been good, he would have benefited from his privilege, unlike Harry, who's really earnt his skills.
(Plus we don't want a message about blood being important or anything, but James was awesome at Quidditch, too!)
