I don't buy Grimmauld having that effect on him when Azkaban didn't, though. Whatever bad memories Grimmauld brought up would have been inflicted on him by the dementors of Azkaban, anyway. I think the characterization of Sirius was jerked around rather implausibly between GoF and OotP, and fanwanking a reason for it is pretty tough if not impossible.
