I don't know of any world leaders who discuss security issues with their former teachers. The fact that Fudge does just highlights the backwardness of the WW in this respect. Seeing that the wizarding world doesn't seem to have anything similar to universities, I think we may safely assume, that Hogwarts is the equivalent to the scientific and academic world. Although that idea makes me bury my face in my palms, I think it explains why the teachers are so much sought after by the ministry and Hogwarts is so much on their radar (OotP)
