Draco never drops gratuitous insults towards females. Not like the Twins or Ron do practically all the time. I suppose he considers Hermione open game because she hangs with Potter all the time. If she didn't, she wouldn't even register on Draco's radar at all.
It's true--and I wonder if JKR really is often thinking about him having a close relationship with his mother knowing what she's leading up to.
I remember times when people would try to suggest that he was particularly sexist or violent towards women (if he's bad he must be a rapist!) when he seems to actually have a pretty good relationship with a female friend who's at least as much of his equal as Ginny. I also don't think, as some do, that he's in any way impolite to Pansy in the train scene in HBP.
