What I find interesting here is that Ron is making it seem as though to the prejudiced Pureblood being Muggleborn = decreased magical ability and that's why the prejudiced act like they do.
That is a really good point. There's always that reaching for some sort of logic about the Muggle-born thing, even if it's false logic. Lucius does say Draco should be ashamed to be beaten by Hermione, but that's clearly not the basis of the prejudice completely. It doesn't seem to be the basis for it, though Slughorn makes reference to it later. Draco often talks about them being dirty or smelly, which indicates something else.
