I'm with Ron. I don't see why "second hand" has to mean hideously tacky. And couldn't Molly take the lace off? Must they be maroon? Can't she do magic? And must she make it so clear that she's loved picking out clothes for Harry and put actual care into how the things will look on him?
*huffs* Well, really! Don't you know she had to buy dress robes for The Chosen One - Harry Potter - who is Teh Important and Influential? I mean she had to spend hours looking for that perfect shade of green to match his eyes. Who has time to pay attention to the kind of robes you're buying for your own son? Get your priorities straight.
