*Snape’s criticism of Neville’s spells could actually be taken as a compliment. Not by Neville, of course. But people who have some self-esteem. Do you mean Snape kindly suggests "we'll be sending what's left of Finch-F. up to the hospital wing in a matchbox" [implying Neville's ability to aim & cast spells right] instead of saying "Neville can't aim and won't be able to cast Accio right"? It sounds like he was suggesting that Neville is very powerful but unable to control himself.
