Two people! He tried to kill two people. First Snape, when he was at school, and then Pettigrew. Because IIRC he says in PoA that he went to find Peter intending to kill him. LOL, he got totally outclassed by Peter though. *feels strangely fond affection for Wormtail*
Which kinda makes me wonder whether Sirius knew how how to perform the Avada Kedavra. It's suggested in the Shrieking Shack chapter that Sirius was totally capable: he had no doubts about his ability to kill anyway...
