The only message I can intepret (I am but a humble woman of course) is that any attitude towards a male you like besides open contempt or faux disinterest is edging too closely to breaking The Rules and emasculating men by not letting them do 'the chasing', putting them off and becoming a 'ball-breaker'. Maybe even being a scarlet woman! (This is all speaking about guys you like in the 'Twu Wuv, Will Marry and Have Babies' sense. I don't even want to go into the attitudes toward female lust.)
