It is from the telegraph--I just recently read a book on the Marconi wireless.:-) But there's no reason wizards ought to be even making that connection, as you say. Of course, I then think of the American alternative and think they should call it Wizarding Radio--except even without the tragic alliteration, wizards wouldn't have any reason to know what a radio wave was either. Both of them are nonsensical. They'd probably ought to call it something like a talking box or something!
