I didn't get the tale in Snape's memory as sentimental. There was such a mess of misunderstanding, a girl who had overgrown her need for her imbarrassing first wizard friend, a boy who couldn't ever understand that because whatever he got from her was more than he could get from anyone else, and after that Dumbledore's cold blooded cruelty and mistrust, that it was only painful.
