Oh dear god. Being turned down for Hagrid. As Snape was dying he was probably thinking that that was the one humiliation he managed to avoid in life, but only because Hagrid couldn't do Potions and Snape had no interest in Magical Creatures.
Iirc, in later chapters I have my own alternate story for Grawp where he's actually a genius and Hagrid is the mentally challenged one of the family. Though stupid does seem to run in Hagrid's family.
