That is a great reason for them not mentioning Lily. To be fair, they rarely mention James to each other either. I could almost more imagine Snape being the one to howl something about Lily and Sirius to reply that Snape killed her--but Snape obviously never speaks her name even alone.
It also makes Snape all the more pathetic that what he thinks is the greatest relationship ever isn't even acknowledged by Sirius--and frankly, maybe Sirius is the one who's correct.
