those glasses actually let him see things with better clarity than the human eye can
Perhaps they are like Clark Kent's glasses, which were apparently special magical alien glasses that rendered the wearer utterly unrecogniseable. One wonders how those specs consistently fail to be a handicap in the way normal glasses would (for example, by falling off when he's playing Quidditch - or being knocked off). Perhaps he has a special stick-yer-glasses-on spell.
