I don't have a clue about the people who confuse "ancestor" and "descendant" and their accuracy on other words, or their views on Rowling as a writer. I've seen this particular mix-up done on television, in classrooms, and among friends. Given that some of the people who confuse those two particular words/meanings are often educated people, it may just be a fault in the education process at lower levels and have nothing to do with anything else.
