- I was fine with the obnoxious twins, because I thought that they were going to get caught out at some point and come out of it better people. Instead they just proved that bullying pays if you tie is red and gold. They did show that even if you're not academic, you can make something of yourself. But they weren't actually stupid, any more than Ron was. They were all just lazy. The Twins just had a back-up plan.

- You're totally right about how silly it was that CoS Hermione solved a problem that apparently stumped the school teachers/governors both then and fifty years previously. JKR could easily have the Basilisk say something whilst travelling through the pipes that Harry overhears. Then Hermione could run with it and come up with the answer, whilst the grown-ups could be excused. Still, she got away with it at that time, because we were still enjoying the story. Here, it just makes NO SENSE that children are almost dying, and no-one's investigating. Oh well, at least JKR's consistent. Dumbles is murdered and there's no trial. WTF!!! (Sorry, spoiler!)

- Still I'm glad to see Hermione using logic again, coming up with good if wrong solutions. You're right - it's very effective. It happens too often in the series to be a fluke, JKR's obviously a capable writer if she tries. Sadly HBP and DH prove that she just stopped bothering.

- I can't feel indignant on the Grangers behalf. Hermione didn't give a flying Pygmy Puff about them, why should I?

- If Ron had died here, H and H would have been spared his whining it's true, but Harry would have DROWNED. Hermione, abandoned in the tent without a wand would have gone to look for Harry and probably died. Or starved. Or if rescued by Dean and co. probably said 'Voldemort' as she didn't know of the Taboo, and ended up at Malfoy Manor anyway. How I'd have laughed!

- I didn't mind Hagrid being such a blabbermouth. Rather I *did mind, he's an irritating old fool, but it made sense. He's always been indiscreet. At least he was consistent. His bigotry really annoyed me though. He could have called him *anything*, why mention Squib? It's getting harder to tell the two sides apart. Except that the DEs were more competent. In this book, anyway.

- I'll always maintain that Hagrid should have been the Fallen Hero early in Book7(seeing as my first choice, Harry, wasn't going to happen). His early death would have comne as a shock, and saved Moody who might actually have been of some use.

- I don't mind Dobby's cringing to Harry too much. He did rescue him from a crap existence back in the days when he was quite heroic. Kreacher, on the other hand gets a few nice words and a locket? Please! Seeing as slavery was apparently fine by this point, Dobby was the only House Elf really in a position to make his own choices. If he'd decided to help the Order's cause (and eventually died for it) of his own free will, it could have been very powerful. Instead he was sent along by Aberforth, like any other slave. What a waste.
