- Finally, I LOVED the whole Draco/Harry/Myrtle bathroom scene. I enjoyed sectumsempra and like you I thought it indicated good times to come in Book 7. Sh*te. I also don’t blame JKR too much for giving Harry the chance to hide the text book as so much of the plot was dependent on it – I’m always a *lot* more tolerant if I’m sufficiently entertained. However, while I really enjoyed it, I couldn’t believe that it was all forgotten about so quickly. Even if it would have no further bearing on the story, it was too important an event to dismiss so quickly - and the end result shouldn’t simply be more proof that James Potter was a w*nker. The occasional sentence every now and again showing Harry struggling with his feelings of guilt, then telling himself that Draco would have done worse to him (compounded by Ginny the Enabler) would be better than nothing.
- Did Harry remain Quidditch Captain? Surely taking that away would be suitable punishment – and really hurt him. He’d have to think about what he’d done then. That said, I thought Hermione should have lost her badge for Scargate as well. If Umbridge is so awful for using that quill (and she is) surely any student that splits open/scars another students flesh should be seriously punished? Or is that just me?
- This is typical JKR I’m afraid. A good scene which she fails to integrate properly into the main narrative. It could be done so easily too, and improve the story no end. Ho hum.
Part Two - the good bit!
