We can only hope in the future someone comes along and says, well I guess it's time for Harry to sell his soul to the devil so that this all never happened.

Could you imagine Harry being forced to do one of these quests on his own? He wouldn't even have a tent to sit in. Sure, he'd leave the Dursleys', because we proved in PoA he could get that far, but once he got into the WW, he'd probably sit in Hogsmeade the whole time, wondering where the first Horcrux was. Then Neville would come through the picture and tell him, "Sorry, Harry. The war's over. Me and a couple Gryffindors got bored so we tracked down Voldemort and punched him in the face."
