The Nasty Deed might have been enough if...
a) this were in the first couple of books or so when we were still meeting teachers. Expectations raised by Hermione only to be dashed - wonderful Muggle Studies program, great new teacher actually knows the stuff, great tool to subvert Muggle-born and Muggle prejudice, etc. Even without a name the teacher would have some significance. Muggle Studies was mentioned in the books but, if fanfic is any indication (and based on WW misdirection about Muggles it may be right), the Muggle Studies teacher seemed to get it wrong as often, or even more often than, she got it right.

b) some student had mourned her or showed that she was more than a plot device. It wouldn't have made as much of an impact but to have her absence missed and her passing mourned would have given her some presence in the reader's mind, something other than a name to associate with a red shirt. (Maybe she'd been at a Star Trek convention and was wearing a TOS-style uniform and so her robe clung like static and her underwear wouldn't have shown...)
