I can understand giving the heroic characters flaws or making them less than perfect – but this sort of intellectual laziness is fairly extreme (to me, anyway). It's as if Rowling doesn't see it as a problem that Harry & Ron never learn to use their intellect in certain ways. If something ever happened to Hermione – their token Muggleborn friend in a world that doesn't take kindly to Muggleborns – those two would be fucked. ESPECIALLY now that Dumbledore's not around to think for them either.
