There was some interview in which JKR said she wanted Harry's triumph to be based both on love and on pure, blind luck. Hence the whole grabbing Draco's wand in the middle of a big action scene turns out to be key to Voldemort's defeat.
I guess she was subverting the genre.
I guess it was a daring risk to take--but one that failed badly.
I've recommended A Very Potter Musical (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=C76BE906C9D83A3A&search_query=very+potter+musical) before. One of the things I find really interesting about it is how they changed the story to work as a dramatic piece. They cut out all the wand stuff. Harry only has to destroy one Horcrux (because there's only one Horcrux with dramatic potential) and then Harry sacrifices himself to create a "love shield."
They explain it all much better than DH does. In fact, it actually makes sense. And there's music!
