Imp

The Imp is a creature from Britain and Ireland, and another one of “the fair folk,” so to speak, in that it’s sometimes confused with the Pixie and behaves similarly—though it can't fly and is duller in color. It lives in marshland where it enjoys pushing, tripping, and generally irritating travelers—just like every other little creature in magical lore ever! Anyway, they eat insects and hatch from eggs like Fairies, only fully formed (so rather more like a dragonfly’s nymph stage than a moth’s larval stage, it seems).

The trouble with this whole business is, that "imp" in and of itself is such a vague and general term that using it to refer to a specific type of creature feels like a redundancy.

Maybe "imp" should have been a genus or a family rather than a single species. Probably that would be too science-y...
