Two super-special-awesome creatures in a row! W00t!

Kelpie

MOM Classification: XXXX

The Kelpie is yet another water-dwelling creature, this time from Britain and Ireland. Its most common appearance is of a horse with bulrushes for a mane, though it can change shape. Kelpies lure unsuspecting victims onto their backs, whereupon they dive under the water and EAT THEM!!!!!!!! However, if a wizard uses a Placement Charm to get a bridle over a Kelpie, it is rendered tame.

Anyway, the Loch Ness Monster is a Kelpie. Has anyone else besides Rowling actually come to that conclusion, or are Kelpies normally regarded as something different?  Because this wouldn’t be the only context I’ve ever seen a Kelpie.

It's a girl Kelpie! 'Cause water demons are cuter with eyelashes:3

Yay, kelpies! I've always thought that they were interesting. Although, given that they're native to the British Isles, I'm surprised that Harry and Co. never ran across one. The only mention of a kelpie that we get in canon is when Hagrid tells the Trio about his visit from Lockhart.
