Magical Magic Creature Spotlight: Kneazle

Because I really want to post something that’s actually from the Harry Potter mythos, I thought I’d come back with another one of these :)



Kneazle
MOM Classification: XXX

Kneazles originate from Britain, though they’re now found worldwide. They’re feline in appearance and generally in personality as well, and will be the pets of wizards if and only if they take a liking to them. They can also interbreed with cats.

Kneazles are also good at detecting suspicious characters and finding their and their owners’ way home. Crookshanks is part Kneazle, which explains why he’s able to be the help he was in PoA. There’s also an evil!Hermione fic out there which is told largely through the memories of Crookshanks, if memory serves.

Kneazles are strange-looking enough to attract the attention of Muggles and thus require licenses to own.

It's a shame that that was the last time that Crookshanks was relevant.

It isn't as noticeable as in PoA, however, Crookshanks does appear in OotP when Snape comes to #12 to discuss Occlumency Lessons. It's less obvious that he finds nothing wrong with Snape because the approval is only noted by his NOT attacking - in other words he doesn't take exception to Snape like he did to Scabbers. Relevant, but mostly under the radar for many people.
