Niffler

The Niffler, which is apparently found only in Britain, is used by goblins to help find treasure, since it's attracted to shiny things. Nifflers live in burrows underground and produce litters of six to eight young, like most smallish mammals. They're ridiculously cute, cuddly, and fluffy, but can't be kept in a house since they'll destroy the owner's property, hence why, in GOF, Hagrid has to turn down Ron's offer to take his Niffler home and keep it as a pet.

You know, the fact that Nifflers are burrowers by nature begs the question: how can one tell that something glitters if it's burrowing underground where no light penetrates?
