*Harry’s last month with the Dursleys isn’t fun, even though they are all now sufficiently cowed. There’s just no pleasing this guy.

*But wait, the Dursleys are ignoring him and acting as though he’s invisible! Poor downtrodden Harry-sucks not having attention all on him, doesn’t it?

*Harry finds his school books very interesting-I find this amusing upon remembering that Harry thought such behavior was abnormal in people other than Hermione in HBP. Guess books just need nice little hexes in the margins in order to hold his small attention span.

*”On the last day of August he thought he’d better speak to his aunt and uncle about getting to King’s Cross”-um, yeah, no shit. I love how he waits until the last day to make this arrangement. If the Dursleys had plans they’d have to drop them for him, of course. Bravo.

*Way to go, Hagrid, not telling Harry how to cross the platform despite knowing that Harry has little knowledge of the wizarding world so far. Yep, I can see why Dumbeldore trusts this guy with his life!

*The guard is annoyed, as if Harry is being stupid on purpose. Nope, it’s the real deal, sorry to say.

*I love Molly complaining about how it was packed with Muggles. Damn them for using public transportation and not being able to Apparate. If Narcissa said this, it’d probably be more proof of why she’s an evil racist who hates freedom.

*Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think it was stated yet that Ginny was a year younger than Harry yet and he finds out in COS when she needs to get her school things. Ginny actually seems younger than she is here-squealing over Harry and running after the train crying. I would place her as younger, but perhaps JKR realized that Harry needed someone to snog and they wouldn’t nearly have so many years if Ginny was six.

*Harry has crossed the barrier from the mundane Muggle world into the ever-so-amazing Magical world! Doesn’t it just give you such a lovely feeling of excitement? I know I’m on the edge of my seat here just waiting for the next magical gizmo.

*We’ve already gotten glimpses of Neville and Lee Jordan, and we can tell Neville’s forgetful and Lee is supposed to be OMG Badass! because he brought in a tarantula! Well, he like Hagrid too, iirc.

*Percy is proud of being a prefect and will continue to be a pompous jerk who can’t take a joke, clearly meaning that he is evil and hates the goodness of the saintly Weasley clan.

*Ginny is instantly squeeing over Harry upon hearing that he’s on the train. Don’t go thinking that she likes him only for his fame, though. She’s matured so much in HBP! *tear*

*Fred’s comment that Harry’s scar is “like lightning” make me think that Harry’s scar has super speed or something. Lightning bolt, you mean.

*Ginny runs after the train crying and Harry instantly feels the birth of the good ol’ chest monster. Wait, you mean it wasn’t love at first sight? They could have had years!

*Ron asking “eagerly” if Harry remembers anything from that night is not at all insensitive. If it was Draco talking, however, then things would be different!

*Aww, Ron, I love you, but it’s funny how he’s only interesting when Harry has no knowledge of the wiazrding world. Once Harry learns the way of the world, he can look down on Ron properly.

*The second cousins squib is an accountant. How blase. Serves him right for having no magical powers, the bastard. Probably planned it and everything.

*Of course JKR said he was rude to Arthur. Arthur couldn’t have been rude to him at all, right? It was the bad blood of squibs, they’re all doomed to be losers with a million cats.

*Harry’s not trying to be brave saying Voldemort’s name. Yeah, this idea lasted for what, three books?

*Betcha those wizarding candies (made with magic!) taste far better than the icky Muggle sweets made in factories! Who wouldn’t want a Chocolate Frog that hops around in your stomach? Does wonders for digestion, really.

*Molly always forgets Ron doesn’t like corned beef. Chin up, Ron, only four more years until Molly remembers you hate maroon once the prefect badge arrives!

*Collecting Chocolate Frog cards seems cute as they’re eleven here. However, come OotP, it’s still the highest form of entertainment to pass the train ride with. Stupid Muggles just don’t understand.

*Dumbledore likes bowling and chamber music! How delightfully eccentric! I so trust him now!

*I think I’d actually prefer my Muggle non-moving pictures. It’d be damn hard for photography as an art if your subjects are moving all over the place. Just go to the movies, guys.

*Maybe this is a sign of my bleak Muggle soul, but give my usually jellybean flavors as opposed to vomit flavored beans.

*Neville brought a toad, which is out of fashion as Hagrid says. Get that he’s a dork, yet?

*Damn, this chapter’s not that long but it seems to just drag on.

*Ravenclaw wouldn’t be too bad. Wow, thanks for conceding a little. It’s hard to admit that the other houses have good points in comparison to the uber-elite Gryffindor house.

*Voldemort was in Slytherin, meaning that everyone there sucks! Good to know.

*I wonder what Molly and Arthur would have said if Ron didn’t get sorted into Gryffindor? Hmm, I’m sure it’s not too hard to imagine that reaction. ;)

*Yay for Crabbe and Goyle standing next to Draco like bodyguards! <3

*I love Draco I introducing himself a la James Bond.

*Draco’s upset that Harry turned him down because he only wanted him for his fame! Harry’s fame had absolutely no part in Ron’s decision to sit with him, of course.

*Goyle’s reaching for the Chocolate Frog cards-that bastard, he’s fat but it’s only a reflection of his gluttonous soul! Harry and Ron have eaten a lot of sweets, but the powers of good means that they’re just healthy growing boys with great metabolism!

*Aw, Hermione, you’re such a swot. But I think I prefer this version compared to Hermione in OotP.

*Harry and Ron are followed into the boat by Hermione and Neville-just like the train ride in OotP; we get more subtle foreshadowing of the group that shall fight evil! Touching, really.

*They’re at school. Finally.

Good catch! "You mean, do I remember the night my parents were murdered? I've been trying to forget actually, thankyouverymuch."

Why is it important to Ron and the twins to know what Voldemort looked like anyway? He's supposed to be dead. Are they expecting him to haunt Hogwarts?

Yeah, and what's up with "you can't expect him to hang around all day"? Surely it's not Dumbledore himself showing up on those hundreds of collectible cards, but some kind of magical simulacrum. Why shouldn't it hang around all day?

It's great how Draco clearly wants to only talk to Harry due to his fame, but Ron and the twins are obviously only talking to Harry out of genuine interest. Sure, they grow to like him as he is later on, but I do think that the fact that it's Harry Potter helped a lot in piquing their interest. Just like Ginny always loved Harry for who he was, even though she barely really knew him until around OotP.
