Theoretically the wizarding world could be much more egalitarian than the muggle world. Witches don't appear to be weaker magically than wizards the way women are weaker physically than men, and with wizarding lifespan, childbearing and childcare take up a relatively small part of witches' lives. But JKR didn't write it that way. The wizarding world is more deeply rooted in muggle culture than they like to admit.
