The Marauder's Map

*Harry is kept in the hospital wing for a WHOLE weekend. I don't hear any protests that Harry is faking and milking his Dementor faints. If the chosen one stays out a few extra days, it is the way of things.

*Harry gets a whole bunch of gifts from his subjects. Hagrid gives him ugly flowers. OMG, "normal" Ginny even plucks up the courage to see him. She bestows another singing card on him. Just what a boy of 13 years wants from a friend. How much you want to bet that Molly is passing on those singing cards? I bet the singer is that singing sorceress chick. All to bag the chosen one.

*Harry is keeping Grim secrets from Ron and Hermione because it is required by the plot at this time. Otherwise it just looks as if Harry doesn't think Ron or Hermione is up to the challenge of sharing the awful burden of being Harry Potter.

*Oh noone else faints from Dementors thinks EMO Harry. It is proof of his super speshulness.

*Harry remembers his mother's death. Okay. He was barely a year old but he has full memories of this event? How common is it that anyone remembers being a baby? Oh, I forgot Harry had all the magical super powers of a chosen infant.

*Lupin is back from his little vacation and the class complains about Snape. Which truthfully, Lupin doesn't really give a damn. He just tells them they won't have to complete Snape's assignment.

*Hermione, ever in a campaign to win more admiration, has already completed the assignment. That brown-noser. Did she really think that Snape would even read all that?

*Lupin and class study more dangerous animals that would have been a better course of study for animal class.

*You know, besides the dementor class and Harry's personal patronus class, I don't think Lupin really teaches that much protection against the dark arts.

*Its almost as if he was already aware that he wouldn't be staying long. Hmmph

*Lupin keeps Harry after class. You know, for someone who was one of the best friends of James Potter, he doesn't seem all that friendly to Harry. Poor Harry, looking for any amount of fatherly affection, just clings to him really pathetically.

*Lupin gives Harry the lowdown on Dementors. Because someone has to be in charge of exposition. When they aren't, they are thrown into the arms of weepy women who lose their powers of pink.

*Lupin, that gem, agrees to give Harry Patronus lessons. Its not as if Dumbledore probably told him to do it. Otherwise Lupin would have been content to just be the DADA teacher without extra Harry.

*Harry is really looking forward to the extra attention. Pathetic little one.

*Oh and the sky turned opaline white. Good use of the thesaurus there Rowling. Bravo.

*I suppose this ties into HBP somehow. In POA, under pearly sky, Harry receives the map. In HBP, over pearly love potion, Harry gets the Prince. He loves all of them of course. As they are all pretty nasty in their own way.

*Ron and Hermione rearrange their Christmas Holidays around Harry. Because that is what its all about...Harry not their own families. Molly wouldn't complain, that love potion takes time to stock. But I would really like to know what the Grangers feel.

*Harry can't go to Hogsmeade DAMMIT! But wait! Here come the Twins with a plot point! You need a magical map that helps you sneak around and represents a security flaw in Hogwarts defense system? Why here we are to help!

*I shudder to think how many times the Twins used this map to torture students they didn't like. I shudder even more to think how the marauders used this to abuse everyone as well. It was probably even used to stalk the ever wonderful Lily-poo. Thanks be, Harry didn't use it to follow Ginnysue.

*Harry cheerfully skips out of Hogwarts, with the map's help, to Hogsmeade. Even though there are two crazed killers on his tail.

*Hey, Harry had to go to Hogsmeade dammit.

*Harry checks out the very sadistic candy on sale at Honeydukes. I know I always wanted candy toads hopping in my stomach and making me nauseous.

*Ron and Hermione, trying to forge some kind of simpatico, do what all people who have nothing in common do. Discuss their one mutual friend.

*Ron seems really determined to buy Harry really awful candy made from real blood. Hmm, your passive agressive tendencies are showing Ron. Heavens only knows WHERE OR FROM WHOM the wizards got this blood from.

*Ron is miffed that the Twins didn't tell him about the map. Of course, Hermione scolds Harry.

*They go to The Three Broomsticks in which Harry has his first alcoholic beverage. Hey a 13 year old has to start living in the fast lane sometime.

*AND THEN all the Hogwarts teachers along with Fudge decide to sit next to Harry and gossip about him! How convenient. You know Harry never has to work for any of his secrets at all. He serendipitously gets all his info when he hides behind the nearest available plant.

*The fact that Fudge would be hanging around with a bunch of teachers just shows what a small circus the WW really is. Can you imagine any world leader hanging around with school professors?

*Just why are they discussing the Sirius dilemma in front of Rosmerta? How is it any of her business? Is it any wonder Riddle is so successful in his jackass plans when everyone in the most important jobs can't keep their mouths shut with personal info?

*How how wonderful was James Potter and Sirius Black. Real charmers! I'm sure even Snape would agree.

*Oh and as per Rosmerta, we get a very nasty, Peter "was that fat little boy who was always tagging after them at Hogwarts". Thank you Rosie you're a real beauty. THAT must be why Peter was attacked he was fat. It also explains everything later, if only he lost a couple of pounds and none of the rest would have happened.

*I also get a whiff from everyone that Peter wasn't good enough for Sirius and James. Puleeze. Everyone was too good for the likes of those jerks. But of course these really are the paragons of the HP world.

*Not a word about Lupin. I guess noone thought he was good enough for the wonder pals either.

*Of course Hagrid bawls that he was used by Sirius. Again, why is brainless Hagrid included on this? As if he hasn't been accidently helping Riddle out on each of his wacky plans from the beginning.

*Sirius hearts the Dark Lord, revealed the Potters whereabouts and killed lots of people. Merry Christmas Harry!

*After making sure they pointlessly discuss all things Harry, the crowd leaves the bar.

*OMG, Harry is in shock! Will he survive it?

I don't Snape ever thought Lupin would accept this assignment.
Usually if a substitute teacher gives an assignment, is good form to let it stand, at least in my schools it was so.
I don't think that Lupin is 'under the thumb' of Snape, because Snape brews the wolfsbane on Dumbledore's orders.

Just like real world candies made from bugs.
Mankind has tried to eat everything, sooner or later ^_^. Candied cockroaches are a distint possibility. The candies the twins gave Ron, the ones that made a hole through his tongue, those are extreme and Muggles aren't so stupid to invent them.

I don't know of any world leaders who discuss security issues with their former teachers.
Neither do I... Fudge is a poor excuse for a Minister mainly because he is under Dumbledore's thumb for almost all his career, and the teachers he talks to here are Dumbledore's men (and women, and giants).
I cannot imagine that Scrimgeour or Crouch Sr would do the same.
I had more the impression that they were reminiscing together on some well known event of the past, though.

In a way, though, he is. Not because of the Wolfsbane, but because Snape knows his secret and can let it "accidentally" slip. As we shall soon see.

Almost all of Hogwarts faculty knows his secret. But he needles Snape, and I like to know why. Does he want his secret to be revealed? To shame Dumbledore? Because he like to be jobless? Because he want all lycanthropes in England to be subject to further restrictions?
I think Snape has Dumbledore's blessing in revealing Lupin's secret, too.

But Snape's the one with a grudge. Still, yes, Lupin doesn't act like he's afraid of what Snape'd do.

I think Snape has Dumbledore's blessing in revealing Lupin's secret, too.

I wouldn't put it past DD, but why do you think so?

Because Snape lets 'slip' that Lupin is a werewolf at breakfast. Lupin resigns, according to Hagrid, "first thing in the morning".

Snape eats at the high table with the other teachers, who already know he is a werewolf. Yet Lupin immediately resign and Dumbledore immediately accepts his resignation.

Compare with what happens the following year with the campaing to have Hagrid resign... Dumbledore ignored it for months.

The only explanation is that Snape's 'slip' was only a pretest to force Lupin's resignation, even if he went to Slytherin table to reveal the secret. I don't think he bellowed it in the center of the hall.

Dumbledore had no reason to be pleased with Lupin. He lied to him and behaved irresponsably and dangerously. Snape was more than willing to oblige, I think.

Unless Snape did not tell anything and Lupin, as usual, lied about his resignation. Hagrid must have been at the same table and he didn't mention Snape at all.

(And thank you to have made me re-check my data. I was under the impression that Lupin resigned at the feast.)

Dumbledore wouldn't have had to reveal Lupin's secret, though. Threatening exposure probably would've been enough to get Lupin to resign.

Unless DD didn't want to look like he was blackmailing Lupin. Then it'd make sense to give Snape permission to reveal the secret so that DD's hands looked clean.

It was in style for Dumbledore, no doubt. Maybe he also wanted a DADA teacher walk away alive and sane, and forced resignations are the blandest form of the DADA course we ever see.

In a sense, before POA it was Lupin who could blackmail Dumbledore ("you let a little werewolf stay at Hogswart against the rules and you weren't able to keep him in check") and now the tables are turned.

By the way, the reason Lupin gave Hagrid for his resignation was "Says he can’ risk it happenin’ again". So very noble of him.

Heh, Lupin really is a liar. That's one of the things I like about him.

Pity Hagrid has never taken that attitude towards ... anything.
