POA - Chapter 11
Mar. 11th, 2007 08:51 pmThe Firebolt
*Harry was so EMO that he didn't even remember how he got back to Hogwarts after the big gossip scene.
*Why didn't the Weaselys, Dumbledore, or Hagrid tell him? Good boy, Harry, keep that line of thought going. The logical next step would be, "what else have they not been telling me?" But do you keep questioning? No, you big oaf.
*Ron and Hermione watch him during supper but don't speak because Percy is near. The Dark Lord Percy must be thwarted, if he knows Harry is suffering, he may try to help. Evil, that would be.
*The Twins can't change their schedule of terrorizing just because Harry is ailing. They spark off fireworks in the common room before everyone leaves for holidays. Harry avoids them so he won't have to discuss the map.
*Harry pulls out the family album to mourn his parents and curse Sirius. Sigh. Look how handsome Sirius is! There is no hint of the homicidal bully there.
*During his fitful night, Harry has a dream in which he equates Peter Pettigrew to Neville Longbottom. Because we all know fat little boys aren't that strong. Don't we?
*Harry catches Ron and Hermione sitting together in the common room. No doubt discussing Harry's emo existence. You know, for all the times they are alone together without Harry, they never, ever got anything going? Please, that really strains credibility.
*They ask Harry is planning to go half-baked and chase Sirius. No, kids, that will be Harry's plan when he reaches majority and Dumbledore probably knows he will be that stupid. It all fits into the plan.
*Harry tells them he thinks Malfoy could be right. !!!!!!!!!! OMG, Harry/Draco. :D
*A few more pages are wasted with Ron & Hermione trying to calm Emo Harry down. All for Crookshank's spying benefit, of course. Hey, I wonder if Sirius can speak to Crookshanks when he is in animal form? Hmmmm
*They all decide to visit Hagrid. Because we can never be tortured enough with jackass subplots.
*Hagrid is sobbing because Buckbeak is sentenced to death. The narrator gives us a rundown of all Hagrid's greatest crying hits since the beginning of the series. Oh the torture.
*Its Hagrid, pity him, it isn't as if he is responsible for 85 to 90% of the stinkfests he causes.
*Hermione volunteers to do legal research for him. That makes me laugh. Hermione thinks that the WW has some sort of legal system? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. There be no Habeas Corpus here little girl. Go back to your muggle home.
*Its Christmas! And as always, Molly gives Harry a better present than she gives to her own son. Those Weaselys, always so loving.
*Oh Wow, Harry gets a Firebolt broom from a mysterious gift giver. Again, the goblins allowed Sirius to send a CAT to take money out of a vault that hadn't been accessed for many years? COME ON! Methinks the Goblins have much to answer for in the WW. How many other secrets are they keeping?
*Ron thinks Lupin purchased the broom. LOL, even Harry won't fall for that one. As if Lupin would be aware of Harry's existence if he wasn't responsible for it as a job.
*Hermione comes to the scene and rains on everyone's parade. Oh yeah, and she also arrived with Crookshanks. Just for the laughs.
*Crookshanks reveals Harry's sneakoscope which screams warnings. Not that the kids will think anything of it, it doesn't work into the plot as yet. Besides they are too busy dumping on Hermione and Crookshanks.
*Well, whatever, nevermind because now it is time for Christmas Dinner. In which all the people without normal family lives take part in. That includes, the Trio, Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, Sprout and Trelawney. Trelawney is all dressed up and looking for Lupin. You know, way back, I thought Trelawney was about the same age as Lupin. I liked that ship. Much better than weepy Pinkos.
*Dumbledore gives Snape a cracker that turns into a fancy, witches hat ala Lupin's joke. And we wonder why Snape wants to KILL DUMBLEDORE?
*So they all go back to the common room after a marvelous Christmas dinner (although I don't think Snape would share that opinion). Hermione brings McGonagall, who confiscates Harry's broom.
*You know, I think Hermione probably forced McGonagall into action here. She had to follow the rules otherwise Mcgonagall would have been happy to see Harry on a faster broom. Darn the Muggle Hermione!
*Hermione is on Ron's S**t list once again. But then again she never really leaves that list anyway, so, par for the course.
*This will be another drop in the bucket for Harry's sob story. In the next chapter, more Emo Harry.

If only she'd been as ethical with the whole Montague business. But I guess that in Rowling's world part of becoming a teenager is losing your conscience in order to gain some much needed social standing, huh ?

Date: 2007-03-12 11:23 pm (UTC)I do think that's what normally happens, though I think of it more as a dulling of conscience rather than the total loss of it. With Rowling and her secondary characters, it is written from a distance, so that sometimes their decisions and actions when compared to previous ones seem too drastically different. I don't get that "I'm-totally-wrong-but-I'm -going-to-do- it-anyways", followed in the worst cases with "shit-that-was-the-wrong-thing-to-do-and-I'm - an-asshole" type struggle in some very important cases with Rowling's writing.
I do some of the characters' most egregious actions come back into play somehow. I absolutely loved everything to do with Draco in HBP, and especially his use of the banishing closet.

*Dumbledore gives Snape a cracker that turns into a fancy, witches hat ala Lupin's joke. And we wonder why Snape wants to KILL DUMBLEDORE?
I hope that, no matter which side he ends up on, Snape got some real satisfaction out of that.
