*I can see why Ginny falls asleep into her cocoa. It must be exhausting reining in her inner Quidditch goddess to appear to be someone who barely thinks about the game. Or did Harry just somehow manage to miss her every contribution to the conversation and so not realize she's obviously smarter than everyone else about the game?

*Harry lies in bed and thinks about Krum's spectacular moves. It gives him that itch to climb onto his own broomstick. Mmmmmm. Boys.

*I love that Harry dreams about being a celebrity with everybody cheering when Ludo says, "I give you...Potter!" as if he isn't already that. It's nice that celebrity kids can still dream about being sports heroes. Krum probably dreams about being a singing star or something.

*Somebody really should help the Ministry. I mean, there's "a crowd" of wizards tormenting the Muggles, but couldn't the thousands of other wizards take them out while their wands are pointing upwards? It's not even like the Dark Mark has appeared yet. These are just a bunch of guys doing the stuff wizards do to each other all the time.

*Nice try there with the idea that they're afraid to make the Roberts family fall, but surely they could hit the wizards on the outside of the crowd, and maybe cast their own levitation spell on the family?

*Just how long has Draco been waiting by that tree, I wonder.

*You know, I always forgot here that there's an actual crowd underneath the Muggles, so it's kind of more interesting that Draco can't just join in with the random people who find it funny. He's really kept out of any seriously bad behavior for the first five books.

*Btw, can you imagine if your dad was part of that masked group? How embarrassing.

*Even with the scariness of the Muggle baiting Hermione finds it in her to provide a little exposition about Beauxbatons, which seems like an all-girls' school even though it isn't in the books, because all-girls is more cliché.

*And there's Winky, looking almost as if someone invisible were trying to hold her back. What's that about?;-)

*And Hermione begins her campaign for house elves with completely wrong impressions about Winky. She will stick to that method for the next two years.

*Perhaps there was some truth in what Malfoy said--now that Harry is far enough away that Malfoy can't see him listening to him.

*Aww, look at Stan bragging to the Veela by telling her he's going to be MoM when two books from now he's going to get thrown in jail for bragging!

*Harry is now able to throw off the Veela charms, just cause...well, why is that? See, I always took Ron's vulnerability to Veela to be a sign that he was *more* sexually mature than Harry, but JKR seems to feel Ron was the least mature, due to Harry's pathetic performance with Cho.

*We've also got goblins cackling over gold they won and Bagman looking pale. Check.

*It's surprising how strange it sounds hearing Ron call Draco "Draco."

*I love that Hermione is more passionate about the house elves than she is about the "poor Muggles."

*Is it really that hard to conjure the Dark Mark? Seems like it would be a simple spell. I'm surprised more kids don't conjure it at times. Remember those kids in Jaws with the fake shark fin?

*Now I'm thinking about an interesting AU where Harry's slightly mad and does go around casting the Dark Mark.

*Nice demonstration of Priori Incantatum--pay attention kids, this'll come up later!

*Honestly, could Hermione get over her obsession with Winky's fear of heights? I really don't think it's that big of a deal. She's much more upset by being given clothes, which Hermione will now try to do to every house elf she meets.

*Hermione had always gotten along well with Percy, more than any of the other Weasleys. ::sigh:: Liked her better when that was the case.

*Honestly, must Hermione tell Ron what the Dark Mark is? This seems like something Ron should know-surely it's featured in scary stories when he was a kid? I have a hard time believing Fred and George didn't conjure little ones to terrify him with when he was little. They'll be making chocolate ones in a few years.

*Heh--I love that the Death Eaters were scared away by the Dark Mark. Go Barty.

*And btw, get a life, Lucius. What a stupid thing to be doing at the QWC.

*Actually, the more you think about it, the creepier it is. All of Lucius' acts as a DE come right back on his kid--his diary plot is part of why Voldemort is trying to get Draco killed in HBP, and the same thing that drives Barty Crouch's Dark Mark makes him bounce Draco in ferret form. Draco has been such a Marked Man from the beginning.

*Oh good, the Roberts are being subjected to further magical spells. I was worried they might get let alone for five minutes. And don't anyone feel badly or talk about them like real people or anything. Just Muggles, after all. FRANK BRYCE FOREVER!!!

*Yeah, how dreadful the Death Eaters consider this sort of thing fun. Well, the Death Eaters, Fred and George, the Marauders, Lily, maybe Harry if it's the right people...

*Oh yeah, thinks Harry, I had a dream three days ago that's probably important. Better keep that to myself.

Foley Work
Lots of work for the Foley guy here.

Informed Attributes
Mr. Weasley and Hermione are totally incensed by condescension and bigotry against everything...but Muggles.

Misdirected Answering
More discussions about house elves! I want more more more! I can not hear ENOUGH about house elves!

Nut o’ Fun
I kinda want to know what Ron's little Viktor thinks of all this.

"Watermelon, watermelon, cantaloupe, cantaloupe"
The kind that sounds frantic, but still watermelon and cantaloupe.

Whooshing Powder
Pretty much all whooshing powder going on here, but it's impressing people right and left!

Final score: 5

Draco is Harry's personal postman in GOF. He always seems to be standing by with an embarassing newspaper clippings or news scoops.

"Hey Potter! I found this interesting - hey! Where are you going? Pay attention! Notice me! Please ... my soul aches for you ..."

Obviously...she just didn't want to embarrass herself by appearing interested in Quidditch.

*And Hermione begins her campaign for house elves with completely wrong impressions about Winky. She will stick to that method for the next two years.

And then just as suddenly drop it. Because the plot no longer requires her to have a hobby.

*Aww, look at Stan bragging to the Veela by telling her he's going to be MoM when two books from now he's going to get thrown in jail for bragging!

This is a man who is totally made happy and fulfilled by being the Knight Bus Conductor.

*Oh yeah, thinks Harry, I had a dream three days ago that's probably important. Better keep that to myself.

Harry has to keep his Slytherin under wraps.

And this is only more evidence for my Harry/Emo boys theory. Krum isn't exactly rainbows and sunshine.

It's surprising how strange it sounds hearing Ron call Draco "Draco."

I don't see why. It's not as though Ron would normally refer to him by his surname, which would suggest Ron puts importance on name and blood.

I love that Hermione is more passionate about the house elves than she is about the "poor Muggles."

Hermione doesn't know any Muggles, so she doesn't need to care.

That just cracked me up...

Which would explain why he wasn't overall interested in Cedric in spite of his good looks...

JKR seems to hold the idea that "sexually mature" means to not be affected by sexuality. I was brought up with the same idea - it's ridiculous, of course, but quite common. In fact, this kind of doublethink creeps me out, seeing she feeds it to a whole generation of kids now.
In HBP, we are told by Ginny that basically ACTING sexually is good - even for a girl. But at the same time, it's ridiculous to really want anything sexual, the psychological dimension, the inner need or longing for it, so to speak. Ron is ridiculous for salivating after the Veela or Fleur, whereas seriously-to-be-taken Harry has his reactions under control. Hermione never seems smitten by anyone after that first crush on Lockhart (meaning she grew out of it); the same goes true for Ginny, who grew out of her obvious crush on Harry and now just cooly accepts the boys' devotion until Harry recognizes her as his woman for eternity (um well, until he has to get rid of her in favour of more important things...). On the other hand, there are the ridiculous - read immature - girls like Parvati pining for Firenze, Romilda pining for Harry and Lavender pining for Ron. It's o.k. to HAVE sex, but not to WANT it, because it makes you vulnarable, I guess. And a true Gryffindor doesn't allow that sort of thing. It's for pathetic Hufflepuffs and slutty Slyhterins...

Also because it means that Fleur was somehow better than the Beauxbatons boys. But this is impossible. Only Mary Sues can beat the boys at their own game.

Hermione doesn't know any Muggles, so she doesn't need to care.

What happened to all her Muggle friends? I suppose she had none, because smart people aren't allowed to have friends unless they boss them about and do their homework. It's odd that neither Ron nor Hermione seem to have existed before they boarded the Hogwarts Express. Ron knows no other wizard kids but didn't go to Muggle school either. Ginny is the only girl he has ever seen. And we never hear about Hermione's involuntary magic - I wonder did she inflate a teacher who didn't like her science project?
