Aug. 16th, 2005 09:25 amHey there! Good to see so many members already. I sent a bunch of invites also, but quickly went up to the limit!
Just thought we could do with an extra place to discuss this stuff without interrupting
the_snarkery. (I'm still posting there, btw, just in case you see me or anyone else who's at both and get confused!)
So I'm not any kind of boss here, anyone can post at anytime. But I thought we could do with a first entry, maybe see what everyone feels like doing:

Date: 2005-09-06 02:57 pm (UTC)Oh, and the SS/DM subtext in the book was wonderful, wasn't it? I do like this pairing and hope that HBP will result in more fic and art. I think Duckpuppy did a beautiful S/D picture some time last year, it was just gorgeous.
Er, this was a little long, sorry. *hands over chocolate*

Date: 2005-09-06 03:13 pm (UTC)I was never a Snarry fan, I'm afraid - it just doesn't appeal to me. I'm not wildly into crossgen, although I don't have any objections to it (I'll read the odd Draco/Snape, but the power issues uneven it a little, so I prefer gen of those two, really) or too many Snape pairings. Dunno why. I guess I don't see him as a very sexual/romantic person.
There's always decent fics in every ship, though, imho - everytime I say 'Ugh, I hate Snarry/Sirius & Remus/Harry het' someone comes up with the exception that proves the rule! ;)
I couldn't get into Snarry fandom anyway, though, since from the brief lookaround I've seen, Snape fen and Snarry shippers in general seem to detest Draco and the other younger Slytherins, and almost turn Snape/Harry into the ship of martyrs - they've both been bullied victims, so they find love in each others arms. Blech.
Like I said, this is a generalisation - I know there's quite a few very smart, sane Snape fen right here; and having not read much Snarry, I wouldn't want to sum it up like that, it's just a general impression.
Much like H/D fandom isn't all gushy teenagers and purple prose, but there's enough of that around that I guess I wouldn't get offended if someone didn't want to read any.
(I tend to read H/D in the main part, but I have no real ship loyalties. Most any Draco pairings suit me, as well as odd pairings, gen... I probably tend towards the younger generation, though. Having said that, I read a fantastic Severus/Narcissa just recently...)
I'm glad in a way that there were more obvious (well...to me, and obviously some other folk, too! ;) James/Harry parallels, because I don't like Harry as a character in any of the books (or many of the Gryffindors, really...) so his jerkitude coming to light more and more is a plus (that's if Rowling sees it/intends it as jerkitude at all - this is the woman who thinks he's a perfect boyfriend and Ginny 'compassionate' after all!)
I hope there's some kind of resolution to this in Book Seven, but I doubt it somehow.
