What do you consider to be the best HP fics, the ones that are especially memorable or exceptionally well-written? I feel like I'm running out of good stuff to read, but I'm sure there's more out there. All lengths, ratings, pairings, etc. are acceptable. Please also feel free to advertise your own stories.

ETA: Don't panic if your response doesn't appear right away. Livejournal is making me approve any comments that include hyperlinks.

ETA2: WIP's are also fine.

This is what DH should have been. Fidelius? Fixed. Camping? Cut. Elder Wand? Eliminated. A rational Lupin. Hedwig lives! Slytherin redeemed! Snape doesn't die in such a lame way! The seventh book as I'd have written it. CANON SHIPS. Most canon deaths. <<

It was certainly better than Deathly Hallows, but stuck to it too closely in places. Didn't Hermione still carry out the chilling mind-wipe and don't the characters all come across as very much like girls, even Voldemort?

I haven't read the fic, but I have to wonder what's wrong with being like a girl.

Voldemort should never come across as affable! He would not ask someone nicely to sit by him on a sofa!

Essentially you are saying that Dumbledore was scarier than Voldemort and that may be so, but that doesn't change how Voldemort ought to be depicted in order to keep to sense of the text.

How do you think Voldemort should be depicted? With a low voice instead of a high voice? With a Teddy Roosevelt-like "Bully, fellows, let's have at them!" instead of as someone who uses flattery and ceremony and playing followers against each other?

I'm not saying that Voldemort's traits as they are shown (or more likely told) to us are female. I just think it's an odd thing to state that so-called girlish traits are (1) lesser for a particular character or (2) anything that can be defined with great certainty.

I think a lot of villains are actually ambiguous in gender, and authors rely on this to make them unsettling to readers. You might identify a villain as being definitely one gender with all the stereotypes that go with that, but it might not be the case that everyone does.
