GoF Chapter Ten
Apr. 13th, 2007 10:23 am*Yeah, I'm sure Mr. Roberts will be fine. Just a little disoriented for a while because they had to make him forget a "big thing" (after zapping him every five minutes for several days). If Arthur says he's okay he's okay--Arthur knows so much about how Muggles work.
*Why do wizard photographs come in black and white? Doesn't it seem like they're just copying Muggle technology? Seems like with magic it would be more likely to just confuse them that we have pictures that take the color out.
*Molly feels badly about yelling at Fred and George in what might have been the last time she saw them. Think the twins and Ginny would feel badly if Percy was killed and the last thing they did was throw food at him? Nah. He deserved it.
*You know, people always talk about Molly favoring Percy and not the twins, but I don't know if Percy feels that way. From his pov she seems to value him for his accomplishments (and even there only the major ones that she can point to, like being head boy or Prefect--she doesn't care about his day to day business) while she loves the twins even as they screw up. I imagine that kind of feeling is kind of common in boys like Percy. Even if it's unintentional on his parents' part, he has a point.
*Bill tells Percy to shut up. ::sigh::
*This will take some smoothing over, says Arthur. Is that in his job description? Because all he literally seems to do at work is "smooth things over."
*Boy, that Rita Skeeter sounds like a nuisance. Think she'll appear again now that she's suddenly become a prominent figure in the WW?
*Also it's kind of interesting that given the job he has he's never had to go in on a weekend for over a decade. Going in on a Saturday isn't that big of a deal, given the crisis.
*Just pointing out every little thing about Percy's interaction with his family, Molly doesn't want Arthur to go into the Ministry, but doesn't seem to care of Percy goes. Really, Percy seems to only get attention when he does something she can brag about. She does show the same kind of remorse when he leaves home, but I can easily see a lot of resentment built up in Percy.
*Okay, why DOES everyone get scared by Voldemort's name? I used to think there was some logical reason for it (like the fact that in a magical world "speak of the devil" isn't just an expression), but now it just seems to be something that everyone does to show Voldemort's a badass, and drops to show they themselves are cool.
*Hermione snorts derisively at Trelawney, who turns out to have probably been the most important person in Harry's life--though she always seems to have been nothing but a tool for anyone.
*The Hedwig-free sky. *snorts* And even better, Ginny-free Quidditch!
*I think we know by now that everything Percy says he says "importantly." We don't have to hear it every time. We can just assume it.
*Ha--good for you, Percy catching on to Mundungus. Too bad you'll be replaced in the house by Mundungus the crook soon enough.
*Yup, the Weasley clock is very informative, though it's never actually helped anyone. It was almost useless until the second war started and the hands got stuck at "mortal peril," making it completely useless.
*Rita's found out Bertha's gone missing, which Arthur sees as a bad thing. If she hadn't been ferreting at the Ministry no one would have known or cared she'd been murdered.
*Do you think Hermione will ever address the actual complicated reality of the house elf situation ever in the series? Not that I really care, but I do wonder why I have to be subjected to this annoying subplot. Hermione could be a shrill, know-it-all activist teenager without this storyline.
*Ron says he'll go starkers before he puts his robes on. Half the fandom thinks he's opting for madness instead of nudity.
*I'm with Ron. I don't see why "second hand" has to mean hideously tacky. And couldn't Molly take the lace off? Must they be maroon? Can't she do magic? And must she make it so clear that she's loved picking out clothes for Harry and put actual care into how the things will look on him?
*The robes are moldy, which to me is the worst thing. Yuck. Poor Ron.
*You know if the Malfoys lost all their money Cissy and Draco would still work up a set of tasteful, good-looking dress robes that put Harry's bottle-green matchy-matchy ensemble to shame.
*Harry would willingly split all the money in his vault with the Weasleys. He's just never offered because he's
*It really bothers me the way Ron mistreats Thunderball. I hate it when people talk about pets as if they can be not as good as somebody else's.
Designated Hero
I wonder if Trelawney and Winky get drunk together in the kitchens and talk about how great their lives are thanks to our heroes?
Informed Attributes
Yeah, if only everybody had listened to Arthur about Bertha Jorkins. He totally cared about what happened to her and tried to get Ludo to search. Uh-huh.
Nut o’ Fun
Did we know the Weasleys had a ghoul in their attic? How does that work? I don't remember if we knew that before. How does one get a ghoul in the attic? Is it like having bees make a hive up there, or having mice?
Final score: 3

Date: 2007-04-13 03:09 pm (UTC)Not going in for a decade on the weekend is pretty swell, he might not ge paid much, but he seems to have a lot of time to tinker about. His job doesn't sound too hard, receiving favours, covering up for important people and being exposed to all of Muggles gadgets that he loves.
The fear never seemed to go with Voldemort, just hidden. I'm not sure why it's so awful, unless when you speak his name, he knows where you are and what you are thinking. But I think that's beyond Voldemort. There is so much fear, but not mcuh info given on what he has actually done especially in book 6.
I really didn't like the treatment the Weasley's gave Percy in book 6, he's different from his family and they don't accept that. He can be pompous, but the rest of his family can certainly be self righteous. Plus, importantly? How does one speak like that? Sounds more like Percy is taking pride in his work and unless that involves blowing things up, or refusing promotion it just isn't the same.
Molly seems to love to give Maroon presents to Ron. He obviously dislikes the colour. Issues *nods*

Date: 2007-04-13 05:22 pm (UTC)The only kind of Quidditch I endorse.
*Do you think Hermione will ever address the actual complicated reality of the house elf situation ever in the series? Not that I really care, but I do wonder why I have to be subjected to this annoying subplot. Hermione could be a shrill, know-it-all activist teenager without this storyline.
Really, she should spend her time being a full time activist for Harry Potter, the persecuted Chosen One. Why doesn't she get her priorities straight?
*Harry would willingly split all the money in his vault with the Weasleys. He's just never offered because he's afraid they'll take it sure they'll never take it. Try suggesting that vault split with the twins, Harry. I guarantee they'll be more open to the idea than you think. Like you'd be making an Unbreakable Vow to that effect before you knew what hit you.
Heck, if Harry did that, maybe Molly would have called a halt to the LP gambit.
The funny thing is, Harry's perception of his money changes with each book. In one book he is worried he will clean out his account, in another he wants to give it away to the Weaseleys. Molly would just love that but Ron would die a million deaths of embarrassment. At least Ron has a bit of taste and pride. Don't worry Ron, you'll never have to change a bit of your lifestyle when you marry Molly Part Deux - Hermione Granger.

Date: 2007-04-13 06:15 pm (UTC)Especially when in COS, Arthur returns to the Burrow early in the morning, after an overnight raid. Clearly the job is not limited to the basic 9-to-5, so it would seem pretty peculiar that he was never needed on a weekend.
*It really bothers me the way Ron mistreats Thunderball. I hate it when people talk about pets as if they can be not as good as somebody else's.
This does reflect Ron's tendency to compare himself to others and give in to resentment, as he does when Harry's name comes out of the goblet. Do you think we're likely to get a repeat of this sort of conflict in Deathly Hallows?
Did we know the Weasleys had a ghoul in their attic? How does that work? I don't remember if we knew that before.
Also back in COS, Ron refers to the ghoul while showing Harry his room.

Date: 2007-04-14 09:06 am (UTC)*huffs* Well, really! Don't you know she had to buy dress robes for The Chosen One - Harry Potter - who is Teh Important and Influential? I mean she had to spend hours looking for that perfect shade of green to match his eyes.
Who has time to pay attention to the kind of robes you're buying for your own son? Get your priorities straight.
